Learn how to play Connecticut Pick 4 by following the step-by-step guide below. There's a few more parts to filling out a playslip than there are for most lotteries, but it is a simple game to enjoy and the flexibility you have as a player is one of the best elements of it.
The Day drawing takes place at 1:57 PM ET, with ticket sales cutting off at 1:45 PM ET and reopening at 2:01 PM ET. For the Night draw, you'll have to buy your tickets before 10:20 PM ET. The draw is held at 10:29 PM, then wagering starts again from 10:46 PM ET.
Start by choosing your four numbers. Select one from each line (numbered 0 through 9), or choose a Quick Pick if you would prefer for the lottery computer to generate a random set on your behalf.
This is where Pick 4 starts to differ from other draw games. You can choose from various wager types - Straight, Box, Straight/Box, Pairs or Combo. Go to the Ways to Play page for details.
Pick 4 can be paid in increments of $0.50 in Connecticut, starting at $0.50 and going up to $5. The more you wager, the more you can win, so it's a risk versus reward equation.
The Wild Ball gives you more chances to win. It is a fifth number that can replace any of the first four digits, therefore creating four new winning combinations. Adding the Wild Ball doubles the cost.
Decide whether to play the Day draw, the Night draw, or both. You can enter your numbers into drawings for up to seven consecutive days to make sure that you don't miss out.
If you have an old ticket and want to play the same numbers again, you can simply hand it in to a Connecticut Lottery retailer and ask for a 'Replay'. A new Play4 ticket will be printed, starting from the next available draw, with all the same selections - numbers, wager type, Wild Ball option and wager amount.
To win a prize, you need to match all the numbers you have selected and meet the requirements of your wager type. For example, if you play a Straight, you have to get each digit in the correct position. For a Box, you can match the numbers in any order. Go to the Odds and Prizes page to check all the other prize tiers. page to see all the payouts and probabilities.
If you play the Wild Ball, it can replace any of the four winning numbers and potentially give you a prize if you have just missed out. For example, if you choose 1234 as a Straight and the numbers are drawn as 1239, this would be a loss in the base game. However, if the Wild Ball is 4, you can swap this 4 in to the line-up in place of the 9 to create a winning combination.
